January 21, 2016 – The Fairfax Companies, a Southern Arizona company offering construction, demolition, and landscape waste industry services, is now providing free foam recycling at their facility. Jason Tankersley, CEO of The Fairfax Companies is the driving force behind this recycling effort and hopes that this service can help improve their surrounding community.
“We are really excited to be able to offer free foam recycling, as we believe it is the right thing to do for our community,” said Tankersley. “Our new program is coming in good timing as many individuals still have foam packaging and foodservice products leftover from the holidays.”
Accepted foam materials include EPS, XPS (Extruded Polystyrene), PSP (Polystyrene Paper), EPE (Expanded Polyethylene), and EPP (Expanded Polypropylene). In order to provide these foam recycling capabilities, Fairfax decided to purchase their very own densifer. According to Tankersley with their new equipment they are able to efficiently process 400 lbs. of foam an hour. After the foam is compressed by the equipment, the blocks are purchased by buyers in China, who then uses the material to create picture frames.
“When you recycle your foam you are helping to keep these items out of our landfills and streets,” said Tankersley. “If we can recycle foam and turn it into a more valuable product, then I think we should definitely choose foam recycling. Also, the fact that Fairfax has the ability to cover the costs of recycling makes it viable to provide foam recycling options to our community. ”
In order to recycle your foam for free, the foam must be clean and separated prior to dropping it off at the facility. If the foam is mixed with any other materials like cardboard, plastic, or green waste, there will be a standard landfill cost of $30 per ton.
